Folio Books is a Lahore-based independent publishing house with a focus on academic non-fiction. We’re, however, also open to other genres and formats of books as long as they fit our profile and politics. Founded in 2017, the publishing house has worked with some of the most important progressive thinkers from South Asia and beyond. We also actively work with like-minded presses from around the world to seek as well as licence territorial rights for select books. Taking forward the South Asian legacy of independent political publishing, we proudly identify as anti-capitalist, anti-imperialist and internationalist.

FOUNDER & EDITORIAL DIRECTOR
Bilal Zahoor

Bilal Zahoor is the founder and editorial director of Folio Books. He is currently pursuing his PhD in Social and Political Thought (SPT) at York University, Canada. He is the editor of two books: Rethinking Pakistan: A 21st-Century Perspective (Anthem Press, 2020; Folio Books, 2019) and Politics, Economy and Society: Essays on Pakistan and Beyond (Folio Books, 2023). Before joining SPT at York, he was a visiting faculty at the Department of Liberal Arts, Beaconhouse National University, Lahore. His interdisciplinary research interests concern continental philosophy, eco-Marxism, environmental movements, indigenous thought systems, eco-poetics and Southern theory. Zahoor is a member of Haqooq-e-Khalq Party, a grassroots anti-capitalist project in Pakistan. He also occasionally contributes to The Philosophical Salon, New Politics, The Ecologist, Monthly Review Online, Dawn and The News International.

MANAGING EDITOR
Saeed Husain

An anthropologist by training, Saeed joined Folio in early 2023 after completing an MPhil in Social Anthropological Research (Distinction) from the University of Cambridge. Outside Folio, Saeed is also a visiting faculty member (most recently at the Aga Khan University) and regularly consults for development projects. As managing editor, he identifies and works closely with authors to develop books that provoke critical thinking.
